Recently, the average SAT score across the United States has been slipping. In just a year the reading score has dropped three points, the writing two points, and math down one. This has been the record low for the scores recorded in history.
The College Board says that the reason for the decrease in scores is the amount of diveristy of people that take the test now. An example is about 27% of the test takers come from a home where English is not their first language. About 30% of people who take the SAT are Black, hispanic, or American Indian. Their scores have remained stubbornly lower than the Whites and Asians.
Personally, I feel like teenagers and young adults that take the SAT just don't really care anymore. It shows how America is becoming illerterate and not number one in the world for education anymore. We're letting Japan, China, and Europe surpass us in these areas. If we started to care again and really started trying we could raise our SAT test score averages instead of lowering them.
